The electrical power transformer is one of the main equipment in the power plant and substation. The role of the transformer is not only to increase the voltage to the electricity consumption area, but also to reduce the voltage to all levels of service voltage to meet the needs of electricity. In short, both the step-up and step-down of voltage must be done by the transformer. In the process of electric energy transmission in the power system, voltage and power losses will inevitably occur. When transmitting the same power, the voltage loss is inversely proportional to the voltage, while the power loss is inversely proportional to the square of the voltage. The transformer is used to increase the voltage and reduce the transmission loss.

The electrical power transformer made by electrical power transformer manufacturers is a static electrical device, which is used to change an alternating voltage (currents) with a certain numerical value  into another one or a few voltages (currents) with different numerical values of the same frequency.When the primary winding is supplied with alternating currents, alternating magnetic flux will be generated, and the alternating magnetic flux will induce alternating electromotive force in the secondary winding with the help of the magnetic conductance function of the iron core. The level of the secondary induction electromotive force is related to the number of turns of the primary and secondary winding, that is, the magnitude of voltage is proportional to the number of turns. Its main function is to transmit electrical energy, so that the rated capacity is its main parameter.The rated capacity is an idiomatic value used to show the power, representing the amount of transmitted electrical energy,denoted by kVA or MVA.When a rated voltage is applied to the transformer, it is referred to determine the rated current that does not exceed the temperature rise limit under specified conditions.
